Week 4 roundup: Brantley runs wild, Luverne survives Lanett

All four high school football teams in The Luverne Journal’s coverage area earned victories Friday night.

Here’s a roundup of Friday night’s contests:

 

Kinston High School at Brantley High School

Brantley unleashed a pack of running backs upon Kinston in a 53-6 victory in front of a homecoming crowd at Brantley Field.

Robert Shine led the way for the Bulldogs with a seven carry, 118-yard effort with three touchdowns.

Kedrick Brown also topped 100 yards rushing for Brantley. He finished the contest with five carries for 113 yards and two touchdowns.

Trey Pittman chipped in eight rushes for 64 yards and a score.

Brantley quarterback Jayden Parks went 9-of-12 passing for 148 yards and two touchdowns, one to Brown and the other to Jordan Parks.

Brantley (4-1) will host undefeated Highland Home (5-0) on Friday night at 7. The Flying Squadron decimated Horseshoe Bend, 42-0, in a homecoming contest at Clay Jordan Stadium.

 

Lanett High School at Luverne High School

Luverne overcame a 19-0 deficit to defeat Class 2A, Region 3 foe Lanett, 26-25, at Glenn Daniel Stadium.

Tigers quarterback John Taylor scored on a 13-yard run in the second quarter to make the score 19-6.

Jamarion Salter sandwiched a pair of touchdown catches, one from Taylor and another from Tyler Carter, around a Lanett score to close the gap to 25-18 going into the final quarter.

The Tigers took the lead for good on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Taylor to Carter. Myrez Gross punched in the two-point conversion to give Luverne its third consecutive win of the season.

Luverne (3-2, 3-0) will host Calhoun on Friday night at 7.

 

Wilcox Academy at Crenshaw Christian Academy

Crenshaw Christian beat Wilcox Academy, 54-35, at Cougar Stadium.

Cougars quarterback Brayden Moore went 8-of-17 for 165 yards and four touchdowns against the Wildcats, and added nine carries for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Moore chipped in another touchdown on a fumble return.

Drake Mills returned an interception 50 yards for a score and tallied nine tackles, while contributing 38 rushing yards on five carries.

Crenshaw Christian (3-1) will host Hooper Academy on Friday night.
