Sports writers name All-State basketball teams

The Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) has released its 2024 All-State High School Basketball Teams, naming first-, second-, third-team selections and honorable mentions which included several Crenshaw County Public Schools’ student-athletes.

Jakaleb Faulk, a Highland Home School junior and guard for the Flying Squadron, made the Class 2A boys’ All-State first-team.
From Brantley School, Jayden Parks, a junior and guard, was named to the Class 1A boys’ All-State second-team. Freshman Bulldogs’ guard Alex Grimes earned honorable mention on the Class 1A girls’ All-State team.

Luverne School senior Zyan Peterson made the All-State honorable mention list for Class 2A girls’ basketball.

The ASWA is a professional organization for sports writers and editors from across Alabama. It is a nonprofit organization.

The association’s prep committee is tasked with the responsibility of conducting regular top-10 rankings of high school sports programs and selecting all-state teams in those sports. The committee also determines the winner of annual awards including the Jimmy Smothers Courage Award.
