Brantley Concert Band to debut new music composed by John Lynch

The Brantley School Band Program will present their 2021 Spring Concert on Thursday, May 6, at 6:30 PM in the Brantley School Gym. Their concert will feature musical selections by both the sixth grade Intermediate Band and the High School Concert Band.

The Brantley School Concert Band is honored to have the opportunity to perform the world premiere of a new piece of music written by internationally renowned conductor and composer Dr. John Lynch. Dr. Lynch has served as the Director of Bands at the University of Kansas, the Director of Bands at the University of Georgia, and most recently, the Director of Wind Studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in Sydney, Australia.

“I am thrilled that the Brantley Concert Band has the honor of performing the world premiere of Dr. Lynch’s piece! This piece has NEVER been performed, so these students have the chance to play a piece no one has ever heard,” said Kylie Blackstock, Brantley School Band director. “We are also excited that Dr. Lynch will be traveling to Brantley for the concert! The students will have the opportunity to work with him before the concert, as well as ask him questions about his piece. I know that this will be an incredible experience for the students. I am excited for them, and for the community of Brantley as well. We hope everyone can join us for the concert!”

Dr. Lynch’s new piece is entitled “Together Again,” and it was written in 2020 during the world COVID pandemic and shut down. The piece tells a story of the many different emotions that people might have experienced during the pandemic: confusion, humor, loneliness, and disconnection, to name a few. However, the piece is not all melancholy. The composer explains that the piece “looks with hope towards a time when musicians can make music together again and the world can reunite.”

Please join us for an exciting night for the Brantley Band Program! The concert is free and open to the public.
