Odis W. “Sam” Thornton

Mr. Odis W. “Sam” Thornton, 93, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Thursday, January 20th, 2022. A graveside service for Mr. Thornton was held at 12 PM on Tuesday, January 25th, in Greenwood Serenity Memorial Park in Montgomery with Rev. Mark Perry officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Thornton proudly served his country with the United States Air Force for 20 years until retiring with the rank of Tech Sergeant. After his retirement, he enjoyed working with small motors. He was a dedicated man of God throughout his life, serving as a a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Brantley Baptist Church as well as singing in the choir. He was also an usher and served as the Director of Missions for the Alabama Baptist Association, and worked with the Gideons to share the Word of God with as many people as possible. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who adored his family. His family and loved ones cherished every single minute they were able to spend together, and thoroughly enjoyed his sparkling sense of humor. Though they will miss him terribly, they will find comfort in knowing he is now safe and happy in the arms of his loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his wives, Gloria Thornton & Dean Fowler Thornton; parents, John Henry & Lillie Hart Thornton; and siblings, Johnnie Wilson and Wayne Thornton. He is survived by his loving children, Hope T. (Tim) Folmar and Samuel K. (Terri) Thornton; grandchildren, Brandon (Alicia) Foxworth, Blake Foxworth, Brittany (Cody) Eiland, and Blake (Bonnie) Folmar; and great-grandchildren, Addison Foxworth, Weston Foxworth, Jax Eiland, Sellers Folmar, Chandler Eiland, Truett Foxworth, and Collins Folmar. Active pallbearers were Brandon Foxworth, Blake Foxworth, Cody Eiland, and Blake Folmar.
