CCA student performs at Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade
Crenshaw Christian Academy cheerleader Sommer Cornelius recently got the chance to show off her skills to a new kind of audience.
One of a group of more than 600 talented high school cheerleaders and dancers, Cornelius participated in the Varsity Spirit Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Honolulu Hawaii.
Held from December 4-8, the parade, whose theme was “remembering the past and celebrating our future,” marked the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Those invited to perform were part of a select group chosen as All-Americans at Varsity Spirit summer camps which are held across the county.
All-Americans are selected via tryout on either superior cheerleading or dance skills at camps operated by the Universal Cheerleaders Association, Universal Dance Association, National Dance Alliance, United Spirit Association or Urban Cheerleading Experience.
Only the top ten percent from Varsity Spirit camps have the opportunity to march in a parade of this caliber.
Sonia performed with the Varsity Spirit All-Americans in an exclusive performance prior to the opening ceremony. She then participated as a part of the parade before thousands of people lining the streets of Waikiki Beach.
Apart from performing, participants had the opportunity to meet cheerleaders and dancers from across the nation and enjoy a memorable trip to the Pearl Harbor Memorial and the USS Missouri Battleship.
