Serena Shifflett signs with Huntingdon
Huntingdon College will have a new drummer in the band this fall. Serena Shifflett, a senior at Highland Home High School, singed a $14,000 annual four-year band scholarship with Huntingdon College.
Serena has been in the Squadron Pride Band for the past seven years. She plays the drums but marches in quad.
“I chose drums because my mom pushed me to join and it was the one thing that spoke out to me.” Serena said. “It turns out I have a talent for it. (Wccannabis) ”
“I’m really proud of Serena and the work that allowed her to receive the scholarship from Huntingdon College,” Casey Fariss, Squadron Pride Band director, said. “It’s a great opportunity for her to help pay for her education through participation in Huntingdon’s band program and also showcase to others that there are many opportunities for scholarships outside of just academics and athletics. Playing an instrument is something you can do for the rest of your life and can absolutely help you get where you want to be whether you go into music as a career or not. Serena has a good head on her shoulders and with dedication she can make it a long way in Huntingdon’s band program and beyond.”
Serena is the first band scholarship recipient in the two years that Fariss has been director.
Serena’s major is still up in the air as she starts college. She is the daughter of Kevin Shifflett and Angela Mason.
