Mahone and Magwood sign football scholarships
Two athletes were signed at Luverne High School Friday.
Desmond Mahone signed to play football at Faulkner University. He played many different positions during the 2020 season for the Tigers. Coach Jason Rowell commended Mahone for being a team player and never complaining no matter what he was asked to do.
Darius Magwood signed to play football at Goode Elite Prep in Gulf Shores. Rowell laughed as he commented on a picture he saw on Facebook over the summer of Magwood pushing a yellow Hummer as part of his training. Magwood would train so hard that Rowell had to ask him to dial it back to avoid someone being injured.
Principal Michael Kilpatrick stressed the importance of the opportunity these two athletes have earned.
“We are so excited. This is a great opportunity for them, great opportunity for their future spouses, for their future children, and for their future family,” said Kilpatrick. “Young men, let’s take advantage of it.”
He spoke to the athletes in attendance reminding them that athletics will only take you so far, but education will be with them for the rest of their lives.
