Photo Gallery: Rutledge holds Fourth of July celebration
The town of Rutledge held its annual Fourth of July celebration Saturday morning. Events kicked off with a parade through town.
Parade participants included the Rutledge Volunteer Fire Department, Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office, Friends of Deceased Veterans, the Shriner’s, local residents, and more.
“We always have a great turn-out for the parade,” Mayor Steve Phillips said. “There is a lot of work that goes into it, but we are blessed with a lot of people in Rutledge and the surrounding areas that love to help with the parade.”
Following the parade, the community gathered at Town Hall to pay tribute to deceased veterans and celebrate their freedom. The Friends of Deceased Veterans performed a Canteen Salute honoring fallen veterans. Phillips honored the citizens who have passed in the last two years by reading their names to the crowd. The parade was led by the niece of Tim Hall in honor of Hall’s long time dedication the the Rutledge Parade and town in general. Hall rode in every parade since the event began until his passing last year.
The Friends of Deceased Veterans also performed a cannon salute to honor veterans everywhere.
The events were followed by lunch provided by the town of Rutledge. Hotdogs, chips, watermelon and cupcakes were provided for everyone to enjoy.
The town of Rutledge expresses a big thank you to all the people and organizations that helped with the parade: Shanon Phillips, Rita Brown, Tracy Dillon, Dusty Free, Odarious Peoples, Coca Cola of Montgomery, Clanton’s Battery Angel Bundy and Faye Kyle for cupcakes, Clanton’s Battery for the Cannons, Mr. Ken pf Pea Flicker Peanuts, Rusty King and Steve Brooks for the classic cars, Mr. Glen Murray, Crenshaw County Riders, Alcazar Shriners, Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office for traffic control, and the Rutledge Volunteer Fire Department.
Rutledge is already looking forward to future community events. “I think the next thing on the agenda is relay for life bingo in the beginning of October and the Fall Festival around Halloween,” Phillips said.
