Luverne Tigers defeat Pike Lib Patriots

The Luverne Tiger varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball teams hosted the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots on Jan. 8 during their second area game of the season.

The girls team dominated the Patriots with a 72 point lead and an 81-9 victory. Assistant Coach Jonathan Chambers expressed his pride in how the team executed the win.

“Even though the girls were up on Pike Lib, we still played like we were supposed to throughout the game,” Chambers said.

Senior Zyan Peterson had 21 points, six steals and 11 rebounds. Sarah Crum put 19 points on the scoreboard and had five steals during the game. Amiracle Taylor made 10 points and four assists, and Nikayla Melton scored six points while contributing to the shutout of the Patriots with 15 rebounds.

The Varsity boys fought hard and came away with a 73-52 victory. Jaydin Harris was the lead scorer with 17 points and four rebounds followed by Omar Crumbley with 14 points and four rebounds. Jaden Parker scored eight points,and had three steals and six assists. SeniorJordan Johnson contributed ten points to the win and ten rebounds and SeniorMyrez Gross had ten points and five rebounds. The wins against Pike Lib brought the girls record to 11-5 and the boys to 9-5.
