Brantley High School senior, Daquan Pittman “DP”, declared his intent to play football collegiately after signing with Faulkner University Eagles and accepting his scholarship offer to the Christian liberal arts college located in Montgomery. Family, friends, teachers and coaches gathered Thursday May 5 to celebrate and witness this official signing. Pittman plans to study sports medicine during his four years at Faulkner.
Pittman’s mother, Chiquita L. Johnson, is very proud of her son and excited about what his future holds.
“D.P. has been playing football since he was 5 and has always dreamed of playing football at a college level. I am proud of how hard he has worked on the field as well as in the classroom. He takes pride in his character always, on or off the field. All his friends and family can’t wait to see what this next chapter holds for him. I am looking forward to his future endeavors,” Johnson said.
Brantley Head football coach, Roland Jones, said that Pittman is the definition of an ideal student and football player.
“Daquan has an excellent work ethic. He has always given 110% with everything he does. He stays at it in the classroom and on the field. If you have taught D.P. in class or been around him at all, you know what you get with him, he is a great person. He has really worked hard through the years and Faulkner is getting a great human and a great athlete. (Ambien) I am so excited for D.P. and this next step in his journey,” Jones said.
Pittman also received offers from Mississippi College and Phoenix City Prep School, but said that Faulkner was the best fit.
“Faulkner University really made me feel at home. Taking this next step is a blessing because I get to do what I love most at the next level. I’ll be the first in my family to go to a university so attending Faulkner is very special to me,” Pittman said.
Pittman will be studying at Faulkner and sharing the field with his former Brantley Bulldog teammates, Luke and Zack Johnson.
Pittman’s career stats are as follows: 204 carries, 1,783 rushing yards, 29 rushing touchdowns, 87 receptions, 1,267 receiving yards, and 14 receiving touchdowns.
