A special called board of education meeting was held June 3, 2022, at 7:30 a.m. in the boardroom of the Joe R. Sport Administrative Building Located at 183 Votech Drive, Luverne.  The purpose of the meeting was to discuss property purchase.

The recommendation made by Dodd Hawthorne, superintendent of Crenshaw County Schools (CCS), to purchase property at 1442 Airport Road in Luverne for a price of $400,000 was approved. The project will be funded through Act No. 2020-167 Series 2020 Bond Funds administered by the Alabama Public School and College Authority (PSCA). The main building was constructed in 2006 and houses 11 offices, a conference room and a communication room. The main building is internet ready and only a few cosmetic repairs are needed. There are plans to install security cameras on the property as well as a security fence. The purchase included a 40 foot by 60-foot enclosed metal building with a cement floor. The county’s bus shop will be moved into the main building along with CCS’s technology department. The other structure will be used for storage. Plans to use the freed up space include expanding Career Academy.

“It is a great piece of property with a large amount of office space and storage space. There is nothing major that has to be done, just a few cosmetic things and we will need to add gravel for the buses to park on. We will be able to tear down the old bus shop at Luverne and reduce traffic on that campus and the move will clear up room so we can expand Career Tech. The goal is to have the move completed before school starts,” Hawthorne said.
