BHS opend season against GW Long
Brantley opened their football season with a Jamboree game at GW Long Friday night.
“I played 47 kids,” Bulldog’s Coach Roland Jones said. “We played starters first half and everyone else second half. It was a great makeup for us. At half time, GW Long was ahead 14-12. We wanted to get film on the kids before we play Luverne this week.”
The Bulldog’s biggest obstacle is filling in the holes left post-graduation.
“We have several things we have to fix. We have a young offensive line because we lost all but one starter on the line. The guys are we lost were experienced guys. These young guys will grow each game and by the end of the season we have potential to be pretty good. Other than bruises everyone is healthy. We have six out with COVID or contract tracing,” Jones said.
GW Long kicked off to the bulldogs who were unable to move the ball forward. GW long gained 35 yards, and on to a Rebels touchdown at 7:27 in the first quarter.
At 6:31 in the first, Robert Shine #7, makes the catch and broke away mid tackle fighting his way 65 yards to put the Bulldogs on the score board. Two-point attempt fell just short of the goal line.
Kilcrease made a 35-yard throw to #8, Morel Edwards, for a Bulldog touchdown. Two-point conversion no good.
Rebels take possession on the 30, # 6 breaks several tackles before being brought down by Brantley. Flag on the play, blocking the back against the Rebels, making it 2 and 18 but the Bulldog’s defense holds them back.
First quarter ends 12-7
11:11 Flag on the play- illegal shift on the Rebels, followed by a personal foul on the Bulldogs gives. The Rebels are able to advance to the 1 yard line before the Bulldogs were able to stop them short of a touchdown. The Rebels attempt to cross the goal line, but Dewayne Pittman prevents the touchdown at the one. The Rebels regroup and are able to advance and secure a touchdown, extra point was good.
The Rebels push the Bulldogs back until they are 3 and 18. Kilcrease throws an interception, Rebels take possession at the 39 but are unable to move it to the end zone thanks to the Bulldogs wall of defense and opt for a field goal. Kick was no good.
The Bulldogs gain a personal foul and are pushed back 10 yards. #12 Tucker Kilcrease pushes through to get a first down. However, Bulldog’s advance was quickly halted with a false start.
Half time starts with a 12-14 score.
#20 Trey Pittman makes a touchdown with a minute nine left in the third quarter. Two-point conversion was no good.
Middle of fourth quarter, #22 Janyies Tyson with a fumble recovery following a down field pass.
Jaden Parks # 11 makes a touchdown with 6:10 on the clock, fourth quarter. Trey Pittman is able to pull off the first two point conversion of the night
Pittman follows up with another touchdown. Two-point conversion no good.
