Zi’Myia Scott, a freshman on the Luverne varsity girl’s team, said that good chemistry among the team members has been a key element to their winning season.
“We definitely played a great game as a team Monday,” Scott said. “We shared the ball and made good passes. We got off to a slightly slower start than I hoped, but we picked it up after halftime and finished the game strong.”
The Lady Tigers currently sit at 18-6 for the season and 7-0 in the area.
Zyan Peterson was the leading scorer with 24 points followed by Amiracle Taylor with 21 points and Sarah Crum bringing in 15 points.
Preceding the game, the Tigers recognized senior, Zyan Peterson, for earning 1,000 career points. Peterson has been a member of the Luverne Tigers varsity girls’ basketball team for four years.
While the Lady Tigers basked in their success, the varsity boys basketball team faced a formidable challenge on Tuesday in the Class 2A Area 4 Tournament against Zion Chapel High School, ending the season with a 54-77 loss. Despite the setback, the boys demonstrated resilience throughout the season, showcasing unwavering dedication to the sport.
The Lady Tigers will take on Highland Home at Luverne High School today at 5:00 P.M. to compete for the title of 2A Area 4 Champions.
