After almost two years of providing Luverne with tanning, waxing and other cosmetic services, Vibes Salon & Co presents its new location across the street from their previous storefront.

Owners Maricia Brown and Raven Lewis said their original goal in opening the salon was to offer services that had not previously been available in Crenshaw County.

“I started the business as a small-town tanning salon,” Brown said. “At first, I thought I was in over my head, but we began to realize we had nothing like what we have now in the county. I knew that we needed somewhere to exercise self-love and pampering.”

The new location is not only an aesthetic change. The space will also accommodate new services and experiences for customers to enjoy.

Starting Aug. 13, Vibes will offer body waxing, electrotherapy facials, services to help diminish fine lines and acne as well as eyebrow and eyelash enhancements. Additionally, the salon is welcoming a nail technician every Wednesday for clients to indulge in pedicures and unique nail art. 

In order to grow the business and serve the community to the best of her ability, Lewis began esthetician school shortly after converting the previous Vibes location to a tanning salon. She said despite the hardship of being a small business owner, the work is always rewarding. 

“The hardest part of being a small business owner is slow times–we want to make sure everyone knows what we have to offer so we can start them on their beauty and wellness plans,” Lewis said. “However, it is so rewarding to see the clients’ reactions when they are done with a service.”

Aside from spa and salon services, Vibes has become a space for small businesses to sell and promote their products to the community. Items such as hats, cups and other apparel and accessories are available for sale in the salon.
