The town of Rutledge is gearing up for its Fourth of July celebration which will include a parade, live music, food and fireworks.
Also known as Independence Day, the holiday is traditionally one full of celebrations, and the Rutledge community is planning to provide just that. All events and provisions planned for the day are courtesy of Rutledge’s community, citizens and local businesses.
Festivities will kick off in the morning at 10 a.m. with a parade set to go through downtown Rutledge. Mayor Steve Phillips said that anyone who wants to participate is welcome.
“Our parade started with basically a four-wheeler and a guy on a three-wheeled bike,” Phillips said. “Now it’s cars, tractors, horses – you see a little bit of everything in it.”
For those interested in joining the parade, the lineup will start at the Rutledge Community Center.
Rutledge Mercantile will be offering free hotdogs, watermelon, drinks and chips while supplies last. Additionally, country music singer-songwriter Michael Jay Hughes will perform at the store from 5. to 8 p.m.
Owner and operator Jamie Johnson encourages people to check out his business while they celebrate the day. They have fireworks, food and merchandise for sale.
To round out the day of celebration, the town will hold a fireworks light show beginning at dark.
“Come out and have a good time,” Phillips said. “Enjoy yourself.”
