The CrenshaWorks Hiring Fair & Adulting Day, presented by Crenshaw County College and Careers and Southeast AlabamaWorks, allowed students to learn more about the professional world at an event held May 1.

During the event held at the Luverne United Methodist Church DEI center, students participated in hands-on workshops, practiced interview techniques and were able to interview for real job openings from 9 a.m to 12 p.m.

“Hiring fairs like the 2025 CrenshaWorks Hiring Fair & Adulting Day provide high school students with an invaluable bridge between school and the real world,” said College and Career Coach Haley Kilcrease. “These events offer more than just job opportunities — they equip students with essential life and career skills they’ll use for years to come.”
Businesses in attendance included Rex Lumber, Wiley Sanderson/KW Plastics, First Citizens Bank, Brantley Bank & Trust, Crenshaw County Health Department, the Alabama Department of Transportation, ITAC, Jack’s, McDonald’s and Lockheed Martin Troy.

“Hiring fairs expose students to a wide range of local employers and industries, from banking to healthcare to manufacturing,” Kilcrease said. “This kind of exposure helps students understand the options available to them, whether they plan to enter the workforce right away, pursue training, or continue their education.”

Through interactive learning experiences, students gained practical skills like learning how to tie a tie with Crenshaw County District Judge Jon Folmar and learning how to write checks with First Citizens Bank and Brantley Bank & Trust Company. Additionally, students who had previously completed student training engaged in real interviews for jobs with Lockheed Martin Troy.

“We had on-site interviews with a major company, and several candidates have follow-meetings and tours with HR scheduled for this week,” Kilcrease said. “These are real, immediate pathways to employment that stem directly from this event.”

The fair also opened to the public, allowing adults to connect with employers for an hour from 12:30 p.m to 1:30 p.m.
