The Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office held their first annual First Responder Easter Egg Hunt for the children of Crenshaw County Saturday, April 12.

Children up to age 18 were able to take part in the egg hunt, where they were split into different age groups to find plastic eggs filled with candies and treats.

The Sheriff’s Jail Administrator Angel Herbert said there was an estimated almost 600-person crowd in attendance for the event. Additionally, among the different age groups there were around 3,000 eggs hidden for the children to find.

“We had a wonderful turn out,” Hebert said. “The weather was beautiful; the children were all smiles and lots of memories were made. There were other events going on outside from ours, so we believe next year will be bigger than this.”

Alongside the egg hunts, there were also inflatable bounce houses with Jumping Maniacs Inflatables – provided by Crenshaw County District Judge Jon Folmar – and face painting done by Roni Hyde.

The Easter Bunny, provided by Eclips Party Pals, also made an appearance for the children attending and was sponsored by Sheriff Terry Mears. Children were able to take their photo with the Easter Bunny at the event.

“Every child I saw [was] leaving with a big smile [and] a basket full of stuffed eggs filled with goodies,” Herbert said. “This was an opportunity to give back to the community and our children, which we did successfully.”

There were also different booths set up, including a spin-the-wheel and refreshments from Murphy Family Restaurants Luverne McDonalds alongside a 4-H booth with different games and concessions sold by the Crenshaw County Children’s Policy Council.

Mears said he hopes to continue this event next year, and discussions are already underway about attractions to add.

The Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office’s next event will be their Third Annual First Responder Truck or Treat in October.
