On March 27, Crenshaw County Schools and Southeast AlabamaWorks partnered to coordinate a career event at Turner Park in Luverne. The event allowed first-grade students a close-up view into a variety of careers and the vehicles used by first responders, farmers and a host of other professionals.
“This hands-on approach helps young children connect careers to the real world, spark their curiosity, and encourage them to dream about their future possibilities in a fun and engaging way,” said Haley Kilcrease, a College and Career Coach with Crenshaw County Schools.
The event was a collaboration between Crenshaw County Schools Elementary Career Coach Michelle Barrow, Kilcrease and Rural Workforce Coordinator Kathy Smith with Southeast AlabamaWorks.
At the Thursday event, students got to see, touch and step inside vehicles like fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, tractors and more. Additionally, students were able to meet firefighters, police officers, paramedics and other professionals to hear more about how they do their job and how they use their vehicles.
