An Editorial Opinion of The Luverne Journal

Each week, The Luverne Journal publishes a Faith Community Calendar on page seven. Here, readers can view local news and events specific to Crenshaw County congregations and faith groups, or at least a list of those submitted to the newsroom for publication.

Recently a church’s administrative assistant let us know how pleased she was that we were publishing upcoming events in the newspaper.

“I never thought about that,” she said. “But it’s a great way to get the word out!”

It is a great way to get the word out. We hear fairly often from readers who view coverage of a past event and reflect, “That looks like it was fun,” they say. “I wish I had known it was coming up. I would have gone.”

We want to help you share the news of your upcoming events and our staff looks for notices on social media. But digital algorithms don’t always run everything community members are doing across our newsfeeds. So, we miss the announcements and so do a host of people who would have attended the event, had they only known.

The “who, what, when and where” of local events run for free in our print and online community calendars. We proudly help to share information, as much as we can fit in a brief announcement, to keep community members informed of what faith groups around them are up to. We welcome congregations to send us their church bulletins, which are tremendous resources outlining upcoming ministry events and programs.

Local faith groups can send news of their upcoming events, special services, Bible studies, small groups and community outreach efforts to us by emailing news@luvernejournal.com or calling (334) 382-3113.
