Nelson, Local Sphynx wins Pet of the Week

This week’s Pet of the Week is Nelson, a Sphynx cat whose antics and quirks always entertain his owner, Elizabeth Smith of Luverne.
“Nelson is like having a toddler that never grows up; [he] just tries to find more ways to outsmart me every day,” Smith said. “He loves to open doors when they are closed.”
Smith said Nelson loves to jump onto her shoulder and seems to expect her to carry him around, which she does frequently.
The Sphynx breed is usually hairless and Nelson is a typical healthy kitty with spots of light fur, baby hairs, and many wrinkles. He likes to use his cat tree and often hangs from his perch with his head upside down.
For dinnertime and any additional snacks, Smith said that Nelson is not picky.
“Oh no, he would eat everything if I didn’t keep it all out [and] away,” Smith said. “[His favorite treat is] a squirt of whip cream; he’s addicted.”
After a long day of outsmarting his owner yet again, Nelson likes to tuck in for the night with Smith in her bed sleeping until he can entertain and love his owner the next day.
