The Crenshaw County Board of Education held a special called meeting Thursday at 5 p.m. to interview finalists for the position of superintendent and to make a final decision on the appointment.
After consideration, the board appointed Ashley Oglesby Catrett as its new superintendent.
From an initial pool of four candidates, the board had previously narrowed its selection to current Crenshaw County School System employees Doug Bailey and Catrett. After secondary interviews Thursday, all board members unanimously agreed that both finalists would have been a great fit for the position, noting their strong qualifications and dedication to education.
However, the board ultimately determined that Catrett was the best choice to lead the school system forward.
Further details regarding Catrett’s plans and official start date will be announced in the coming days.
