Luverne is 10-0 against Calhoun since October 2014, and played in front of a homecoming crowd that saw the straight-T ball field roll up over 400 yards in the 36-0 shutout win Friday.

Luverne snapped a four-game losing streak at home on Oct. 4 that dated back to last season. They were coming off a wild two-game streak after scoring 41 points two weeks ago, but were much more limited against Montgomery Academy as they were out-matched 36-8 in the contest that was Luverne’s lowest scoring matchup of the season.

Meanwhile, Calhoun’s Tigers bid farewell to a seven-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to a 22-0 win over McIntosh, a game in which the opposing team never got on the board. But the Luverne Tigers offense stepped up this week in a region matchup as Kane Smith, Elliott Harris and Alijah Hurst all had a hand in racking up 36 points in Luverne’s second highest scoring game of the 2024 season.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jayden Laird, Jacob Bell and Caden Wiggins helped their teammates hold Calhoun back from scoring.

The Crenshaw County team is 3-0 in 2A Region 3 and 3-3 overall as they prepare to face county rival Highland Home. It will be a battle for the top spot as both set atop the region at 3-0.

The Tigers hold a 66-18-3 record against the Fly Boys, but the Squadron has a two-game winning streak.

The Tigers and the Squadron will kick off at 7 p.m. in Clay Jordan Stadium.
