Maxine Sims Rayborn, 87, a resident of Brantley, passed away at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Wednesday, May 15. Funeral services for Maxine were held at 2 p.m on Sunday, May 19, at Brantley Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Russell officiating. She was then laid to rest in Brantley Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Maxine spent 52 years at Brantley Bank and Trust where she worked her way up from teller to loan officer and Cashier. During those years, she touched so many people’s lives in ways that they still remember to this day. She considered herself fortunate in that she not only loved her job but also the people she worked with. In fact, she loved what she did so much that it took TWO attempts for her retirement to actually stick!

Outside of her work, there were few things she enjoyed doing more than traveling with her family. Later in life, she became an avid square dancer, enjoying dancing and meeting people. As much as Maxine enjoyed her work and her other pursuits, there was absolutely nothing she loved more than being “Grandmama” to her beloved one and only grandson! Words cannot express how much she meant to her family nor how much she loved them in return. She will be deeply missed but will continue to live on in their hearts and minds.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, James Ira Rayborn; parents, Luke and Annie Idell Mitchell Sims; and sister, Charlotte Bell. She is survived by her sons, Karl (Jo Ellen) Rayborn and Tim Rayborn; grandson, Bradley (Sarah) Rayborn; and a host of extended family members and friends.

Active pallbearers were Warren Alverson, Scott Hudson, Kenneth Mitchell, Steven Prescott, Johnny Rayborn, and Drew Yantis.
