Edward O. Davis, 90, a resident of Highland Home, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, Feb. 5, while surrounded by his family. Funeral services for Edward were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with his son offering the eulogy. He was then laid to rest by his beloved wife in Sardis Cemetery with Turner’s Funeral Home directing. 

Edward proudly served his country with the United States Army. He returned home to Alabama after his honorable discharge and went to work as a highway inspector for the Alabama Department of Transportation for over 30 years until his retirement. His hard-working, never quit attitude was surely an inspiration to everyone he worked with during his career. Edward had a no-nonsense personality so that you never had to guess where you stood with him, yet he was also generous to a fault whenever he encountered someone who seemed in need of help. He definitely possessed a great sense of humor and could keep you in stitches whenever there was a get-together with family and friends. 

In his free time, Edward enjoyed indulging his green thumb when it came to his bountiful vegetable gardens. He was also somewhat famous in his community for his homemade cane syrup. He also was subject to grind his own corn mill on occasion. It was hard to miss his cane presser out in his yard… all he needed was the mule to make it complete! Edward loved his community in Highland Home and even went to the trouble to help build the softball field there that opened in 1985. His other sports passion was cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturdays in the Fall! Above all, he was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle who will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him so well. 

Edward was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 63 years, Ann Morris Davis; parents, Foster & Essie Lee Beasley Davis; brothers, Waverly Davis and Earl Davis; sister-in-law, Sue Lindsey; and niece, Demea Mercer. He is survived by his cherished son & daughter-in-law, Ronald & Corinna Jo Davis; sister-in-law, Linda Davis; niece, Brooke Smith; and nephews, Lavon Davis and Ryan Davis. 

Active pallbearers were Lavon Davis, Jonathan Wright, John Faulk, Randy Boyd, Howard Cochran, and Labrisha Holston. Tim Wright served as an honorary pallbearer.
