The Bulldogs hit the road Jan. 29 to face the Elba Tigers in what fans called “the biggest game of the season.” The Brantley boys lost to the Tigers 54-52 and the lady bulldogs also fell short with a final score of 53-44.

Although the Bulldogs fought until the last minute, it wasn’t enough to come out on top. However, Alex Grimes is proud of how the girls fought and hopes to improve before they see the tigers again at the area tournament.

“I was proud of how we played, and the drive we had.” said Grimes “I hope we can continue to improve at practice as we get ready for the area tournament.”

Grimes showed up for the lady bulldogs Monday night scoring 20 points. Grimes also snagged six rebounds and three steals. Another standout was CoCo Stamps who scored 13 points and had six rebounds and four steals.

Jayden Parks hopes the loss will only motivate the Bulldogs as they head into the area tournament.

“We played pretty well in the first three quarters but let the lead slip in the fourth,” said Parks “Although it wasn’t our best game, I was proud of the way our guys fought until the end. We can take this game and learn from it as we enter the area tournament next week.”

Despite the tough loss, John Harper Kilcrease had a great night scoring 12 points for the Bulldogs. Jayden Parks led Brantley scoring 25 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

The Bulldog girls play Kinston Monday in the first game of the Area Championship and the boys will play either Houston County or Kinston on Tuesday.
