In a home game held Thursday, the Brantley Bulldogs Basketball teams showcased their skills against the Houston County Lions, with the boys and girls teams securing crucial area wins, bringing both teams to a 2-1 standing in area play. 

The boys team emerged triumphant with a commanding final score of 65-38. Janyies Tyson proved to be one of the driving forces behind Brantley’s success, scoring 20 points against the Lions and contributing twelve rebounds to the team’s effort. 

Tyson was named Bill Henry’s Player of the Week and won a 6 piece wing combo. The student-athlete said being chosen as the player of the week was not something he was really expecting.

“I appreciate Bill Henry’s for recognizing me as the player of the week,” Tyson said. “I was very surprised but our game plan is always to find the points in the paint and since Jayden, our starting point guard was hurt, I did feel like,as a senior, I really had to step it up last week.”

The momentum carried over as the varsity girls’ basketball team showcased their dominance against Houston County High School leaving their opponents struggling to keep up. The Lady Bulldogs secured a huge win with a score of 53-9. 

Friday evening saw the Brantley varsity boys’ basketball team continue their winning streak, this time against the Kinston Bulldogs. With a final score of 55-39, the Bulldogs added another significant area victory to their season record.

Tyson once again took center stage, putting up an impressive 27 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. 

While the boys celebrated their victory against Kinston, the varsity girls basketball team faced a tough challenge against the Bulldogs, ultimately falling short with a score of 31-53. 

Despite the setback, the girls demonstrated resilience and determination on the court and according to junior Myia Mount the team looks at the loss as a learning experience. 

“I know that every game we play is not going to result in a win,” Mount said. “And when we lose we watch the film and see how we played and what we can do better next time. After last weeks games, I have learned that I need to work more on my offense.So, we do get to learn from the mistakes that affect our outcomes so that hopefully we won’t make them again.”

The Bulldogs took on Elba Monday and traveled to Houston County for a make up game Tuesday for games that were covered by student writers. 

On tap next for Brantley are two home games in a row against Florala Thursday and Opp Saturday.
