Obituary – Kenneth Wood Cox

Kenneth Wood Cox, age 87, a resident of Troy, died Sunday, Dec. 3 at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Cox were held Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Troy with Dr. Ross Lankford officiating. Burial followed at Green Hills Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was held 2 hours prior to the service from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at First Baptist.
Kenneth Wood Cox was born in Cottonwood on March 3, 1936. He grew up in Petrey and Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School in 1953. He attended Auburn University and graduated from Troy University. He also served his country in the Air Force.
He was in the insurance business, first with Travelers Insurance, and then as founder of Cox and Associates Insurance in 1969. He later founded or owned Cox Container, Ken Cox Ford, Troy Nissan, and Coffee County Bank. He was very active in civic and community affairs serving as President of The Troy Chamber of Commerce, Troy IDB, Troy Rotary Club, and Troy University Alumni Association among others.
Mr. Cox faithfully served First Baptist Church of Troy as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and in other servant-leadership roles.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years Peggy Scarbrough Cox, son Kenneth Wood Cox, Jr (Lydia), daughter Taylor Cox Jinright (Ross), and grandchildren Shelley Cox, Chandler Cox, John David Cox, Callee Jinright, Reed Jinright, and Wood Jinright (Kelsey). He was predeceased by his father, Lt Col Emmett M Cox, and his brother, the Hon Emmett R Co. The Cox family would like to acknowledge his caregivers Loretta Blair and Bobby Jewell for their faithful and compassionate care. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Troy.
