The Alabama Council of Teachers of Mathematics recently named Christy Smith Little, math instructor at Brantley High School, as 4its 2022 Teacher of the Year.

Little was presented with the award at the ACTM Fall Forum held at the Oxford Civic Center in Oxford, Alabama, on Nov. 3.

To be considered as a nominee for this award, teachers must hold a valid Alabama teaching certificate, be a full-time classroom teacher, and be a current member of ACTM. Each ACTM district selected one nominee to compete for the state prize.

Brantley High School Principal Marcus Taylor said Little was a worthy choice for the honor.

“On behalf of Brantley School, I would like to congratulate Little for receiving this award,” Taylor said. “She is so deserving and this award is a result of her passion and dedication to our students. We are incredibly lucky to have her here at Brantley.”

According to Little, the local community and school system laid the foundation on which her winning of the award is based.

“We are blessed as teachers in this county to have such an amazing support system that includes our central office staff and our local administrators,” Little said. “It truly takes a village, and I am fortunate to have such wonderful students.

“I feel honored and excited to represent our county and school as the Alabama Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ACTM) High School Teacher of the Year. I will cherish this moment for the rest of my life, and I appreciate everyone’s kind and thoughtful comments and support.”
