Crenshaw Community Hospital held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday to signify the completion of renovations made in the Behavioral Health Services Unit at the hospital.

Hospital, city, and county officials, along with other citizens were on hand to enjoy the celebration. Light refreshments were served.

David Hughes, CEO of Crenshaw Community Hospital, opened the ceremony.

“Today we will cut the ribbon, signifying that the construction is complete, we are moving forward, and we can now serve the community in a way that other municipalities just can’t,” Hughes said. “This is another milestone for Crenshaw Community Hospital, and we look forward to working with our board and community leaders more in the future.”

Hughes added he was grateful to those in attendance for showing their support to the hospital.

“I appreciate the turnout and I appreciate all of you,” he said. “We have a wonderful hospital here, and the staff is tremendous. They kept their pace through all the construction and with everything they had to put up with, still provided great care to their patients.

“Everyone involved worked so well together. We are very grateful to our board for funding and supporting this project. It shows their dedication to providing quality health care services to our community. We could not have accomplished it without the dedication of our staff and their hard work.”

The Behavioral Health Services unit features 20 beds and provides acute psychiatric services for adults ages 19-65.
Patients may be admitted on a voluntary basis or by order of the court. Individualized treatment plans are offered so that each patient’s specific needs can be met. (gilberteyecare.com)

The behavioral unit employs a skilled and dedicated team of nurses, counselors, social workers, support staff, and a psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience in the field of psychiatry. Upon stabilization, patients will be referred to appropriate agencies for follow up after discharge.

Andrew Kimbro, Chairman of Crenshaw County Healthcare Authority, cut the ribbon and then closed the ceremony.

“This has been a long, hard road, but with a great staff to lead the way and a board that is dedicated to the mission of Crenshaw Community Hospital, we have completed a much-needed renovation to our behavioral health unit,” Kimbro said.

“This unit provides a valuable service to the community and reflects the board and hospital leadership’s commitment to provide the highest quality of care to Crenshaw County and surrounding areas. I am blessed to be involved with the hospital and to work with a group of wonderful men and women that serve on the board selflessly. Thank you and thank you all for coming out.”
