Dr. Fred Figliano, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Strategic Initiatives in Troy University’s College of Education, has been selected to participate in the American Association of State Colleges and Universities’ (AASCU) 2022 Emerging Leaders Program.
Dr. Figliano is among the group of academic and administrative leaders from 32 different AASCU institutions.
“I am honored to have been chosen to represent Troy University in the 2022 Emerging Leaders Program,” Dr. Figliano said. “I am excited to have been given this opportunity to continue my professional growth and better serve the students and faculty in the College of Education.”
Designed for early- to mid-career professionals and faculty leaders who have an interest in higher education leadership, the Emerging Leaders Program will enable participants to engage in a national dialogue with experienced leaders and experts in higher education and to develop a network of colleagues from around the country.
The program includes opportunities for hands-on practical exercises, a leadership self-assessment, and the development of a plan designed to achieve participants’ leadership goals.
Running from June through December, the program will include six monthly, two-hour interactive virtual sessions and a two-day intensive gathering at AASCU’s Washington, D.C. office in June. Five one-hour optional networking and reflections sessions will also be offered to participants, as well as a participant-led campus project or initiative.
“Dr. Fred Figliano is one of the most dynamic young leaders at Troy University,” said Dr. Kerry Palmer, Dean of the College of Education. “His ability to see past the present situation and envision a better future is one of the reasons he was selected to serve as Associate Dean in the College of Education. I am confident that Dr. Figliano has a bright future in higher education leadership. Selection to this prestigious program is a natural next step for this talented administrator.”
Dr. Figliano first joined Troy University in 2011 as an adjunct faculty member before becoming a member of the full-time faculty in 2014 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education. He served as Chair of the Department of Teacher Education from 2019 to 2021. He currently holds the rank of Associate Professor in addition to Associate Dean.
Dr. Figliano was a Troy University Chancellor’s Fellow in 2021, and, in 2018, was among the Leaders to Watch as selected by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Technology Education from The College of New Jersey in 2006, a Master’s of Education (2007) and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Integrative STEM Education (2011), both from Virginia Tech. He also holds a Certificate in Integrative Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education from Virginia Tech.
