Welfare check leads to death investigation

The Luverne Police Department received a call on October 19, 2021, to perform a “welfare check” at the South Place Apartment complex located behind Jack’s Restaurant in Luverne.

According to Captain Mason Adcock, when officers responded, they made contact with a female subject that was having a medical emergency.

Aid was rendered until Luverne Rescue arrived.

The female was transferred to Crenshaw County Hospital where she passed a short time later.

“The Luverne Police Department is currently investigating the death and circumstances surrounding it,” Adcock said.  “Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact Luverne Police Department during business hours at 334-335-2406 or after hours at 334-335-4485.”

Melissa Scott Bond was placed under arrest and charged with domestic violence according to Crenshaw County arrest records. Her involvement, if any, in relation to the victims death has not been released.
