LBW Community College celebrates the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution with a free, public program on Sept. 21, 2021, beginning at 11:15 a.m., in the Martha and Solon Dixon Center for the Performing Arts in Andalusia.

“We are honored to have speaker Andy Olree from Faulkner Law to discuss some common misunderstandings about constitutional freedom of expression,” said Maria Thigpen, chair of LBWCC’s business, information technology, and social science division.

“Professor Olree will explain how while the value of freedom of expression is widely recognized in the abstract, it seems to be under increasing attack from all sides of the political spectrum.”

Olree’s bio states that he joined the faculty of Faulkner Law in 2005.  He received the Juris Doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was a staff member on the University of Chicago Legal Forum.

Professor Olree’s research interests include the First Amendment’s religion clauses, freedom of speech, U.S. legal history, and Christian legal theology.  His articles have appeared in several leading journals, including Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, Northwestern University Law Review, William & Mary Bill of Rights Journal, and Connecticut Law Review, and his short piece for Alabama Lawyer on specialty license plates has been quoted favorably by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  He is also the author of The Choice Principle: The Biblical Case for Legal Toleration, a monograph published in 2006.

Professor Olree regularly teaches two required Constitutional Law courses, as well as, various seminars on legal theology and civil liberties.
