The Crenshaw County Sheriff’s office has been busy recovering stolen property the last several months. Last week, they were able to not only recover property, but also remove drugs and a few handguns off the streets.

On June 11, 2021 at approximately 8:26 p.m. Narcotics Investigator Pitts, Deputy Bush, and Reserve Deputies Sowell and Watson conducted a stop on a vehicle at the intersection of New Bethel Church Road and Magnolia Shores Rd.  Pitts discovered drugs in the vehicle during the stop and was able to recover 305 grams of high grade Marijuana and two handguns.

Pedarion Fannin, male, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana second degree, carrying a pistol without a permit and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both male subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On Sunday, June 6, 2021, Investigator Laster with the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office said they noticed the 4-wheelers at the home on Mason Road when they responded to a domestic call across from the trailer. The neighbor informed Laster that ATVs were often being moved around at 2:00 and 3:00 a.m.

On June 9, around 2:30 a.m. Laster and Pitts set up surveillance on Bowden Road and both investigators spotted one of the suspects traveling at a high rate of speed.

Both investigators turned around on the suspect when he sped up and turned onto Mason Road.

Pitts and Laster were able to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect at the residence in question. Investigators quickly observed and confirmed the presence of two reported stolen four-wheelers out of Montgomery County at the residence.

Pitts was able to locate the second suspect inside the residence. Both suspects, Matthews Dewitt Davis Jr. and Peyton Dale Motes, were arrested and transported to the Crenshaw County Jail.

“The new trend is to swap the skin on the ATVs and that is what these suspects were doing, taking the plastic covering off and placing them on another ATV,” Laster said. “We have recovered a lot of stolen ATVs (4-Wheelers) this year and I am working with surrounding areas like Montgomery and Troy on theft cases as well.”

Sheriff Terry Mears was able to recover two more four-wheelers and a trailer in addition to the two earlier recovered four-wheelers on June 9.
